# KYB Overview

> What Etherfuse collects to verify a business, how to track where its verification stands, and who has to take part.

Every business must clear **Know Your Business** verification before it can transact or hold API keys. It is completed in the app, through the [KYB WebSDK](/v2/guides/kyb-websdk) launch.

## What verification covers

| Step | What the business provides |
| - | - |
| Company details | Legal name, country, registration number, incorporation date, legal address, tax id, and legal form. |
| Registry documents | Certificate of incorporation, articles of incorporation, certificate of good standing, ownership structure chart, share registry, directors registry or certificate of incumbency, power of attorney for its representatives, and proof of address. |
| Incorporation and compliance detail | The deed and notary record behind the incorporation, any later amendment to the bylaws, tax registration, recent financial statements, and any license, AML policy, or compliance officer the business is required to hold. |
| Corporate information letter | Its business model, website, the jurisdictions it operates in, its economic activity, and a transactional profile: expected annual amount, number and type of operations, channels and assets used, and counterparties. |
| Source of funds | Where the funds the business will use originate, with bank or financial statements behind the declaration. |
| Agreements | Electronic signature, the terms and conditions, and the customer agreement. |
| Owners and representatives | The people it names as its beneficial owners, each with the size of their stake, and as its legal representatives. Each of them completes an [identity check](/v2/guides/onboarding#requirements-list) of their own. |
| Parent companies | A company that owns part of the business is added as a parent company, and supplies its country, legal name, registration number, and the size of its stake, plus its certificate of incorporation, certificate of good standing, ownership structure chart, directors registry or certificate of incumbency, and share registry. Parent companies can have their own parent companies. |

A business is approved once it, its owners, its representatives, and its parent companies have all been reviewed and approved.

<Note>
  Treat the list above as information, not a contract. Etherfuse tunes what is required by jurisdiction and risk, and adding a requirement changes what your customer is asked for, not your integration.
</Note>

## Tracking verification status

### The overall status

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash Sandbox theme={null}
  curl -H "Authorization: <api_key>" \
    https://api.sand.etherfuse.com/organization/<organization_uuid>/kyb
  ```

  ```bash Production theme={null}
  curl -H "Authorization: <api_key>" \
    https://api.etherfuse.com/organization/<organization_uuid>/kyb
  ```
</CodeGroup>

```json theme={null}
{
  "organizationId": "00000000-0000-4000-8000-000000000001",
  "status": "submitted",
  "approvedAt": null
}
```

| Status | Description |
| - | - |
| `notStarted` | No verification started |
| `inProgress` | Started, but the business still has something to submit, including a note Etherfuse has asked it to answer |
| `submitted` | Everything the business can do is done; Etherfuse's turn, including a note the business is waiting on an answer to |
| `approved` | Cleared; the business can transact |
| `denied` | A rejected verdict, or a previously-approved business whose approval was revoked |

Full response codes are on the [`GET /organization/{organizationId}/kyb`](/v2/api-reference/kyb/get-kyb-status) reference page.

### Watching for a change

Subscribe to [`kybUpdated`](/v2/api-reference/webhook-events/kybupdated) with [`POST /webhook_subscription`](/v2/api-reference/webhook-subscriptions/create-webhook-subscription). We send it whenever the business's KYB status changes, with the same `status` values. When it arrives, read `GET /organization/{organizationId}/kyb` to reconcile. A business that Etherfuse asks to send something again moves back to `inProgress`.

<Note>
  The `organizationId` identifies the **business**. A **person** is identified separately by their `memberId`, the `sub` you sign into their JWT. The two are never interchangeable.
</Note>

When a customer created their own business and you only hold their `sub`, [`GET /member/{memberId}/organizations`](/v2/api-reference/members/list-member-organizations) lists the businesses they belong to, so you can find its `organizationId`.
